Edinburgh Capitals are excited to announce that we will kick start our 2024-25 season with two exhibition games on the weekend of Saturday 31st August 2024 and Sunday 1st September 2024 against NIHL opposition, Solway Sharks.
The first game on Saturday 31st August will occur here at Murrayfield Ice Arena with a 6.30pm Face Off. The following night we will travel down to Dumfries to face the Sharks at the Dumfries Ice Bowl, with the puck drop at 5pm.
Over the last two years, the two clubs have formed a strong partnership. We have seen several players coming to the Caps on two-way deals to give them valuable ice time in the hope of progressing their careers. This is something Head Coach Steven Lynch will look to continue in the seasons to come along with Sharks Head Coach Martin Grubb.
This will be a tough test for our team going up against a side playing two levels above but one we will relish to get us up and running for the season that lies ahead. It will be the first chance for the Caps fans to see this season’s team so be sure not to miss the action.
Head Coach Steven Lynch had this to say on the upcoming challenge games. “This will be a great way to start our season. When the possibility of these games came up, we jumped at them.
It will give us an opportunity as a club to test ourselves against a very strong opposition who we are building a good relationship with and will also give us a good foundation to start our season. They will no doubt be very difficult games as Solway are putting together an NIHL squad capable of challenging this season but it is something we will relish.
Sometimes as a club, you have to look to challenge yourselves and step out of your comfort zone from time to time and these games certainly give us that chance.
It will also be great for our fans too, to see another team from another league come to Murrayfield in what will be an exciting weekend of pre-season hockey.”
