Chambo Is Back Between The Pipes

20/06/2024

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce that netminder Craig Chalmers will be back for the 2024-25 SNL campaign.

Chambo has been with the club for two seasons having joined back in the summer of 2022. He has played a massive part in any success the club had, most notably that Play Off weekend when he put in two top performances to guide us to the trophy.

The 29-year-old Kirkcaldy-born goalie grew up as part of the junior system in his hometown. He then moved up to Dundee and joined the Stars organisation. It was there he was given some valuable Elite League experience when he played as a backup goalie for the full season in 2013-14. His coach and assistant coach at that time were two former Caps, Jeff Hutchins and Doug Christiansen. He would also have a certain James Isaacs as his teammate that year as they went on to win the EIHL Gardiner Conference.

Throughout his career to date, he has played in the SNL with Kirkcaldy Kestrels, Dundee Comets, and Solway Sharks and he spent six years with Aberdeen Lynx.

In his time so far with the Caps he has put in some stellar performances backstopping us to some vital wins. He is hoping to play a big part this coming campaign and said, “It was an easy decision to come back to the Caps for a 3rd season. The team has been growing year on year and along with that, an amazing fan base has grown.

There’s been a foundation of a great team being put together so far and we’ll be looking to push for the league title that we’ve narrowly missed out on the last 2 seasons.

We’ll be putting in the hard work over the summer to make sure we are flying from the get-go and give the fans something to look forward to!”

Head Coach Steven Lynch knows the experience of Craig in between the pipes is invaluable and is delighted to have him back onboard. “We welcome Craig back for his third season as a Capital. He’s been a very dependable goalie for us over the last two years and we look for more of the same next season.

On his game, he is a hard goalie to get pucks past, he definitely raised his game last year with the addition of Ciaran Hoggan and has won us some games when we’ve not been at our best as a team.

He’s a well-liked guy in the dressing room and one of our quieter dressing room leaders.

Craig will again form part of a goaltending tandem that will drive each other on to be the best that each can be and we know that no matter who we start in net, that goalie knows what they have to do to win us a game.”

As the summer progresses more signings will be announced. You will hear it all first on our social media channels.
